Over that last few weeks of the 'One' series i have shared several times that while i know our Generation is called to be Passionate World Changers i refuse to go alone...last night i was talking with someone from the PURE staff, someone with huge ministry experience and loads of passion for ministry and seeing hearts changed for Jesus and it brought me back to a reality that i have been wrestling with for sometime now. My responsibility to share things, even if they're not fun to share...
Three things from a leader whos failed at all of them :-)
1) Going alone will often create the opportunity for someone to make it to the top fast, but someone who takes friends with them is able to stay...going alone never creates the opportunity for longevity...why? Simple because its not about you...Jesus, God, and Holy Spirit are about themselves reaching other people, and wont leave you there to gloat...2) God always asks more of us than we are initially willing to give...forcing a dependency on Him. Francis Chan says so bluntly what many of us dance around regularly."The truth is that the Spirit of the living God is guaranteed to ask you to do something you wouldn't normally want or choose to do."
3) Building trust with people who follow you means more than being or looking like the person you think they want you to be...it means caring for people when no one else is looking, especially caring for those that no one else cares about...and trust requires full transparency."People obsessed with Jesus choose to love the unlovable, no matter what the cost, and loving people who may never be able give you anything in return may be the hardest thing in the world to do." -Francis Chan
I said that my conversation last night made me revisit my need to speak even when things are unpopular to hear...truth is I think most of us love the ideas and truths held in the three points above, but are we willing to make them reality...are we really willing to live them out?
In the gut of our person are we willing to join community groups, commit to reading our bibles, praying and spending time with God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit everyday...are we willing to commit our lives to not being about ourselves to giving them away to others who may never give a thing back...to sharing the HOPE of Jesus to a stranger once a week, or taking a risk to fill the chair next to you at PURE tomorrow night by inviting someone...the unfun part of it all is that most of us really arent willing to do that...We all crave to be passionate, weather we think that its cheesy to be passionate about Christ and community or not, secretly we all long to be Passionate Christians...the PC life isnt one easily sustained...it takes risk, and it takes trust...Best part...the God of all creation, a God who is passionate about you is the one that we get to trust...
When we talk about
living//pc there is one quote my dad shared with me as a kid that never escapes me...
"Everyone wants to win, but few have the will to prepare to win." -John Wooden
Question of the day...do we each have passion enough to daily make this life about Him and His business and not ours...that requires action...whats your first step?
See ya tomorrow...
