'we have grown up with the experience of our parents and grandparents that people can and must plan, develop, and shape their own lives, and that life has a purpose, about which people must make up their minds, and which they must then pursue with all their strength. but we have learned by experience that we cannot plan even for the coming day, that what we have built up is being destroyed overnight, and that our life, in contrast to that of our parents, has become formless or even fragmented. in spite of that, i can only say that i have no wish to live in any other time than ours, here and now, even though it is so inconsiderate of our outward well being.' -Dietrich Bohoeffersitting at a late dinner last night i had a profound realization...good conversation and great company propelled my thoughts to destiny and well just life in general...many of you don't know me well, but if you catch me in that time a place, deep in thought about life, heads up...i will talk your ear off...haha who would thought Shane liked to talk??
my conversation lead to a place where i was confronted with the realization of all that God has done in and through me. if you are like me, quite often your consider all the places that you come up short, and in reality all the places you long to see changed...i was challenged with this thought, 'why dont you see all that you have done and are doing as accomplishments to be proud of?' i stopped and for a brief moment i was speechless (imagine that Shane speechless, haha). and then it hit me, for so long i have lived working toward greatness that i never stop and recognize the greatness around me...
i never stop and realize the miracle of things as profound as PURE, or as simple as the 8 people who committed their lives to Jesus just a few weeks back...and yet it will happen again...in just 2 days, hundred of young adults will arrange and rearrange their busy, socially laden schedules to do something profound...they will participate in community. a community that is not about them, but about something bigger...bigger and more profound than myself or any of you...that to me is a miracle...
while so many of us strive for more and look at what has happened in each of our lives as insignificant...there must be a determination in our hearts and a resolve in our thoughts that while this is not enough...what God has done is worth talking about...
what does that mean?? it means so many of you need to invite those around you to wednesday nights...invite those who need an authentic and rooted reality...those that need to make life about something other than their blind ambition...
be there...
